PIPE SHOP FOREMAN

Position: Pipe Shop Foreman
Department: Pipefitting

Job Summary:
Supervise and manage the manufacture, testing, installation, operation, maintenance, and modification of piping systems used in vessel construction. Help coordinate all construction labor and subcontractors for assigned projects.

Pipe Foreman may perform the following tasks:

• Assign daily activities and set goals for each employee
• Ensure each employee uses proper PPE
• Receive and store pipe components for each vessel or project
• Maintain Pipe shop inventory
• Review pipe plans and interact with engineering
• Check and evaluate each of your employee’s progress during the shift
• Solve problems that occur daily
• Teach trade to new employees
• Produce working sketches for common pipe scenarios

Responsibilities:

• Responsible for the detailed scheduling, coordination safety, productivity and good employee relations.
•  Responsible for ensuring that workers are using appropriate PPE where there are exposures to hazards.

Knowledge and Ability:

•  Must have knowledge of total job assignment and sequence of performance
•  Knowledge of all machinery
•  Ability to read and interrupt complex specification and understand relationship of components

Skills:

•  Must be a self-starter with the ability to think independently and use good judgment in resolving issues with minimum supervision
•  Must have good communication skills, both oral and written
•  Able to coach and train workers on team
•  Able to quickly solve problems and resolve conflicts
•  Good understanding of how to delegate work effectively

JUNIOR DRAFTSMAN

Position: Junior Draftsman
Status: Summer Internship

The Position:
Blount Boats is seeking a summer intern to work under the Senior Draftsman in Engineering. This position could transition to a full-time position.

Basic Qualifications:

• Proficiency with Auto CAD LT 2010
• Proficiency with 3-D modeling software – a plus.
• Organizational skills/mechanical aptitude

MARINE ELECTRICIAN

Job Purpose
Pull wire/cable, cut electrical cable and connect/disconnect electrical systems.

Duties
1.   Complies with shipyard safety and environmental measures.
2.   Read and understands basic work specifications, blueprints and schematics.
3.   Familiar with A.C. & D.C. systems.
4.   Familiar with marine wire.
5.   Connects and disconnects all of ship’s electrical systems.
6.   Pulls cable and makes proper radiuses and crossovers.
7.   Troubleshoots basic electrical circuits and equipment.
8.   Able to run wiring harnesses.
9.   Ability to tack both steel and aluminum and build foundations and various structures
10. Ability to install equipment in a marine environment

MARINE ELECTRICIAN APPRENTICE

• Familiar with A.C. & D.C. systems
• Familiar with marine wire
• Able to tack weld with stick and use cutting torch to mount equipment
• Able to pre-fab cable, hangers and install
• Able to pull cable, clip and hang wire

PIPEFITTING 3RD CLASS (Pipefitter’s Helper)

• Basic skills for pipefitting:
• Able to cut and thread pipe.
• Must be able to tack weld with stick and use cutting torch.
• Ability to construct and install pipe hangers.

PIPE FITTER APPRENTICE

• Cut and thread pipe
• Able to tack weld with a stick and use cutting torch
• Construct and install pipe hangers

MACHINIST 3RD CLASS (Machinist Helper)

• Able to use most hand tools, calipers, and micrometers.
• Drill tap holes in foundations and specified places for anchoring machinery
• Assist in moving and leveling machinery, using portable jacks, as directed.
• Assists in bolting equipment to deck and attaches fuel, cooling, or lubricating lines as directed, using handtools.
• Able to burn, cut and shear plate
• Able to tack weld with stick and use cutting torch
• Ability to read a tape measure in feet, inches and divisions of an inch.
• Must know basic shipfitting and mechanical skills.

WELDER 3RD CLASS

• Weld with GMAW – MIG Aluminum
• Skip weld on overhead frames
• Grind and clean welds

METAL FABRICATOR/SHIPFITTER APPRENTICE

• General knowledge and use of all hand tools and power tools
• Measure and cut materials pieces to specifications
• Tack weld with stick, use cutting torch and fit structural steel
• Read blueprints

MACHINIST APPRENTICE

• Use most hand tools, calipers, and micrometers
• Drill tap holes in foundations and specified places for anchoring machinery
• Burn, cut and shear plate
• Tack weld with stick and use cutting torch
• Basic mechanical skills
